Online training programme for metal cutting

Online training programme for metal cuttingTooling company Sandvik Coromant has launched a new training programme designed to share its knowledge of — and best-practice advice for — metal-cutting operations.

The eight-part programme is accessible via the company’s Web site (www.sandvik.coromant.com); just enter ‘online application training’ in the search box.

Customers embarking on the programme will access theoretical and application-based knowledge in turning, milling, drilling and threading.

Communicated through pre-recorded presentations, the programme consists of eight separate modules, including specialist areas such as solid round tools for drilling, milling and tapping.

Three modules on solid round tools will be led by Ben Lodge, Sandvik Coromant’s product specialist for North Europe. During these sessions, customers will learn the fundamentals of successful metal cutting, including the importance of process control and developing the correct machine set-up.

A module on indexable drilling will be led by Mikael Carlsson, the company’s specialist for indexable drilling and boring for North Europe. Here, customers will learn about the vital process considerations when drilling deep holes and how to optimise chip formation for different drills and workpiece materials.

Other modules include indexable milling (led by Barry Cahoon), plus parting and grooving, thread turning and general turning (led by Lee Kendall).

Each training module lasts about 30min; and because they are pre-recorded, the courses can be viewed at any time, allowing customers to complete the programme at their own pace.
