Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) has introduced the new Widia WCE solid carbide end milling platform, a series of cutting tools that excels with steel, stainless steel and cast iron applications. It delivers a cost-effective solution with high performance and reliability to suit small- to medium-size machine shops.
The first release in the new series is the WCE4, a versatile four-flute geometry that combines advanced, high-performance features with a brand new, grade that is offered at a highly competitive price.
Tamir Sherif, solid end milling global portfolio manager at Widia, said: “With its new design, the WCE4 delivers the next generation of versatile end mills to help manufacturers be more productive and efficient. It is an attractively priced tool for small-to-medium shopfloors where reliability and consistent tool life are high priorities.”
Key features include the asymmetrical pitch which eradicates the harmonic effect of the tool to reduce vibration, enhance swarf evacuation and prolong tool life and a variable helix geometry which further reduces vibration to permit heavy cutting while improving surface finishes, tool life and overall stability.
Widia also introduces a new TiAlN coating grade, the WU20PE with the WCE4 which gives the new end mills the ability to tackle steel, stainless steel and cast-iron as well as on high-temperature alloys and hardened material applications
Suitable for demanding operations such as full slotting and heavy cutting scenarios, the new variable helix end mills are available in diameters from 3-20mm and are ideal for shoulder milling, slotting, helical milling, ramping, plunge milling and 3-D profiling.
The WCE platform includes four-flute square-end and ball nose end mills with both straight and Weldon shanks available in both metric and imperial dimensions. It is also available with corner radii and a necked shank to provide engineers additional reach when machining deep cavities, slots and complex forms.
Later this year, ITC and Widia plan to expand the range with the WCE5 five-flute geometry end mills.
