ETG presents new Nakamura ‘next level’ turning centre

ETG presents new Nakamura ‘next level’ turning centreAs the technology partner for Nakamura-Tome, a world-leading brand of powerful multi-tasking turning centres, the Engineering Technology Group (ETG) has released a new precision CNC multi-tasking lathe. With the concept of ‘next level machining’, the new Nakamura-Tome SC-200II machine has evolved way beyond its predecessor, the SC-200.

The SC-200II is a rigid single-turret lathe that can perform powerful and stable machining — even under the most challenging of conditions. Despite the machine being in the 8in chuck size class, it has a maximum turning diameter of 390mm and a swing over the bed of 700mm diameter, providing an exceptionally large machining area for a small footprint machine.

This also enables the machine to accommodate a 10in chuck. The output of the spindle motor has been increased to 15/11kW with the option of an 18.5/15kW motor, making this new addition far superior to its predecessor. In addition to the improved spindle motor output, the bar capacity and Y-axis travel have also been enhanced to give the new machine the ability to accommodate a higher machining capacity.

The predecessor of the SC-200II, the SC-200 won plaudits from the industry and it was the excellent reputation from customers that persuaded Nakamura to evolve this ‘class-leading’ machine into a more flexible and powerful multi-tasking lathe. The high acceleration of the SC-200II permits the operator to machine larger parts and expand the scope and variety of components considerably. What’s more, the machine has a new frame structure that improves rigidity, performance, surface finishes and precision.

Nakamura CEO Shogo Nakamura said: “The SC-200II is a multi-tasking lathe that realises ‘next level machining’. We have added refinements to reduce the burden and simplify operations for workers. I believe that process integration will be familiar to many factories because of the evolution of single-turret machines and I hope that more customers will experience the ease of use.”

With a maximum turning diameter of 390mm and a 510mm distance between spindles, the new SC-200II can accommodate bar diameters of 65mm (71mm optional).
