Partner participation generates ‘quality enquiries’ for FloydBaldock-based Floyd Automatic Tooling, a leading supplier of specialist tooling for precision component machining, once again demonstrated at MACH 2024 why it has an unsurpassed reputation in this sector. The company, which supplies cutting tools and solutions for sliding head turning and small-part manufacturing, presented innovations from a wide range of technical partners at MACH 2024, many of which also had technical experts on hand for visitors to discuss in detail their tooling requirements.

Floyd Automatic managing director Richard Floyd said: “MACH was once again a major success for our business with enquiries certainly on a par with the previous show in 2022. The pleasing aspect about this year’s event is that more than 40% of visitors to our stand were new names to us. With such a huge uplift in new enquiries, our engineers had plenty of work to do after the show had closed. For Floyd Automatic, there was a trend towards more high quality enquiries from the medical and aerospace sectors with the general sub-contract market also investigating ways to enhance their machining performance with our product lines.”

The longstanding partnerships that Floyd has with leading machine tool manufacturers such as Star and Citizen enabled visitors the chance to see the latest tools undertaking live cutting demonstrations. Floyd also has strong relationships with the leading cutting tool brands for this niche segment with MASA Microconics, Mikron Tool, Madaula, Schaublin, Ifanger, Schwanog, Applitec, Alesa and many others having a presence on the stand at MACH 2024.

One prominent brand was Mikron Tool, a company that had technical expert Ivano Bernasconi on the stand throughout the week with an extensive range of Mikron products on display. Mr Floyd continued: “Mikron Tool identifies the UK as a major growth market, so having its team on the stand to present the benefits of its product range worked exceptionally well. In fact, the Mikron team has been invited to discuss some major projects as a result of its MACH presence.

Likewise, the MASA Microconic workholding systems were also a ‘honeypot’ for show visitors. “There genuinely isn’t anything else remotely like the MASA collet-type chuck that is an overclamping system for small parts — this really won plaudits from show visitors. We also had a representative on our stand from Madaula to present the company’s driven tools for sliding head machines. The mechanical spindle speeder provides machines with higher torque and spindle speeds up to 24,000rev/min was perfect for engineers at MACH in the micro-machining arena.”

He concluded: “We also had a presence from Applitec and their new line of external turning tools was particularly interesting to a lot of show visitors. The new TOP-Line range of PCD inserts has been developed for the machining of non-ferrous materials like lead-free brass and aluminium where longer tool life, more consistent results and improved surface finishes can be realised. The strong enquiries we received through the week are a credit to our niche solutions and the excellent technical support we received at MACH from our partners.”
