Sandvik Coromant has introduced CoroDrill DE10 — its second-generation exchangeable-tip drill. The company says this drill has been engineered for high-volume drilling across all materials, adding that with its ‘innovative geometry’, this tool combines plug-and-play capability with a high level of cutting performance.
“CoroDrill DE10 addresses several common drilling challenges, particularly for manufacturers wanting to produce large quantities of holes in a single operation, as it offers high-feed capabilities that boost productivity and lower the cost per hole. Furthermore, both tool inventory and cycle times can be significantly reduced, as CoroDrill DE10 also eliminates the need for a pilot hole to guide the drill.”
Mikael Carlsson, a global product specialist for indexable rotating tools at Sandvik Coromant, said: “CoroDrill DE10 marks a new era in exchangeable-tip drills, with testing against competing solutions demonstrating its superior robustness, faster and easier tip changes, enhanced feed capacity, extended tool life and reduced cost per hole.
One customer testing CoroDrill DE10 overcame the challenge of high cutting forces generating deformation on the drill body of its previous solution, and when using this tool to drill holes for a batch of gear box housing, this customer experienced no wear on the drill tip and a 17% increase in productivity. “Another customer, this time drilling stainless-steel plates, saw a 43% increase in tool life and a 57% increase in productivity when switching to CoroDrill DE10 from a competing tooling solution.”
