Taiwanese machine tool manufacturers were out in force at
EMO 2025 in Hannover last week, staking their claim as global leaders in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). With 121 exhibitors, Taiwan commanded the fourth-highest national presence at the world’s premier production technology trade fair, aligning firmly under the theme “AI Shaping the Future.”
The core of Taiwan’s message was delivered at the Taiwan AI Empowered Machine Tool Industry Executive Dialogue, where industry leaders showcased their unique competitive advantage — a complete national ecosystem spanning electronics, ICT, semiconductors, and machinery that significantly accelerates AI adoption within machine tools. This holistic strength is transforming manufacturing by delivering greater precision, efficiency, and sustainability.
A range of specific, impactful applications were on display.
Cosen Precision unveiled an AI sawing system credited with boosting efficiency and stability in the sensitive aerospace sector. For high-accuracy operations, She Hong highlighted their AI thermal compensation technology, which dramatically improved mould machining accuracy by 60%. Furthermore, to ensure the entire sector benefits from the wave of digital innovations,
HOSEA Precision introduced an ‘AIoT platform’ designed to enable SMEs to upgrade with essential capabilities like predictive diagnostics and energy savings.
Crucially, the industry's own associations,
TAMI (Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry) and
TMBA (Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builder's Association), publicly signalled a profound strategic shift. They emphasised Taiwan’s move from ‘price competition’ to ‘value competition’, underpinned by digital transformation and a commitment to creating an AI knowledge-sharing platform to speed adoption across the sector.
Looking ahead, Taiwan is set to build on this momentum by showcasing its newest innovations at two future domestic events:
TMTS 2026 in Taichung, under the banner ‘AI Empowerment, Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing’ and
TIMTOS 2027 in Taipei, themed ‘AI Deeply Integrated into Smart Manufacturing’. From aerospace and automotive applications to complete machines and components, Taiwan’s AI-driven machine tool industry is rapidly advancing to play a pivotal role in the global transformation of manufacturing.
