New Stadler workshop is key for Austria’s rail industryStadler, a provider of mobility solutions in rail vehicle construction, service and signalling technology that has its headquarters in Bussnang, eastern Switzerland, has opened a train workshop in Obersiebenbrunn near Vienna. The new site strengthens Stadler’s presence in Austria and plays a central role in the maintenance of high-speed trains and in the delivery of all Stadler’s rolling stock projects.

Peter Spuhler, Stadler’s chairman, said: “Austria is an important market for us, which is why we are systematically expanding our presence. With the new workshop, we are creating the conditions to maintain high-speed trains efficiently, which is crucial for their stable and reliable operation. Furthermore, it is far more than just a workshop, but a ‘hall for everyone’ that will in future be available to all operators for servicing work on Stadler vehicles. The facility makes it possible to optimise and standardise preparations for a wide variety of test runs; this is crucial to ensuring that trains can be put into service even more quickly.”

Christian Diewald, CEO of Stadler Austria, said: “With this facility, we are responding to the increasing demands of an ever-more-congested and technologically sophisticated rail network. In doing so, we are laying the foundations for maintaining trains efficiently, sustainably and to the highest technical standards. Our goal is clear: with this project, we are providing a decisive boost to the future viability of the railways.”

Peter Hanke, Federal Minister for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure said that from a political perspective, the project makes an important contribution to the further development of rail transport in Austria and thus to strengthening the country as a business location. “The rail industry is a key sector for Austria and Europe: it creates tens of thousands of jobs, drives innovation and strengthens our industrial value creation.

“Stadler’s new hall represents a targeted investment in this future — in modern infrastructure, expertise and competitiveness. Such projects secure value creation in the country and sustainably strengthen Austria as a high-performing rail and industrial hub.”
