Open Mind highlights CAM and MES developments at AMB

Open Mind highlights CAM and MES developments at AMB Open Mind Technologies will use this year’s AMB exhibition in Stuttgart to showcase the latest developments in its HyperMill CAD/CAM software suite and Hummingbird Manufacturing Execution System (MES), with a focus on improving productivity, automation and digital integration across manufacturing operations.

Exhibiting on Booth 2B21 in Hall 2 from 15 – 19 September, the company will present a range of new software capabilities designed to streamline machining processes and support more efficient production.

Among the latest additions to the HyperMill platform is 2D hale machining, also known as contour planing. The process is supported by dedicated machining strategies and simulation functions to help users achieve scratch-free surface finishes. Open Mind says the technology is particularly well suited to sealing surfaces used in battery manufacturing, as well as other applications where a high-quality finish is a critical requirement.

The company will also demonstrate enhancements to its HyperMill Turning Solutions. These updates are intended to simplify turning programme creation while extending support for increasingly complex turret-type turning operations. Improved collision checking capabilities have also been incorporated to provide greater process security during machining.

A further area of focus at AMB will be the software’s deburring capabilities. Removing burrs from difficult-to-access features often requires labour-intensive manual finishing operations, but Open Mind has developed a dedicated deburring feature package to address the issue.

The package includes three machining strategies covering hole brushing, hole deburring and component edge deburring. Each strategy can be applied in either 3-axis or 5-axis machining environments, enabling manufacturers to produce burr-free edges directly on the machine and reducing the need for secondary manual operations.

Open Mind will also highlight its broader approach to digital manufacturing under the banner of “HyperMill Intelligence”.

Open Mind 1 The concept combines manufacturing expertise, automation technologies, digital optimisation tools and artificial intelligence to enhance programming efficiency and process consistency. Within CAM programming, rule-based automation and established machining logic are combined with company-specific knowledge to produce transparent and repeatable results.

The company is also applying AI technologies to analyse manufacturing data, identify patterns and make existing engineering knowledge more readily accessible, helping users benefit from accumulated expertise across the organisation.

Alongside HyperMill, visitors will be able to see the latest developments within Hummingbird MES, Open Mind’s modular manufacturing execution platform.

The system is built around four core elements: planning and control, machine data acquisition (MDE), CAM/CNC integration and tool logistics. By linking the MES environment directly with HyperMill, Open Mind aims to create a more connected workflow between programming, planning and shopfloor execution.

Tool management is a key area where this integration delivers benefits. Centralised management of tool information enables data to be shared across the organisation, helping manufacturers reduce duplication, improve transparency and streamline production workflows. According to Open Mind, this can result in both time and cost savings through more efficient handling of tooling resources.

To demonstrate the capabilities of its software in practical applications, the company will also exhibit a selection of components machined using HyperMill. The parts will represent a range of industrial sectors and are intended to illustrate how the latest software developments can be applied in real-world manufacturing environments.

With new machining strategies, enhanced turning and deburring functions, AI-driven programming support and closer integration between CAD/CAM and MES systems, Open Mind’s presence at AMB will centre on helping manufacturers improve efficiency and strengthen digital connectivity across the production process.
