Alstom Transport has awarded Faiveley Transport — based in France, with 55 sites in 24 countries — a series of contracts to supply onboard equipment for the 25 three-car Metropolis train-sets that it is to build for the Kochi metro (under an 85 million euro contract awarded in October 2014).
Faiveley’s contracts have a total value of more than 10 million euros; they include the supply of braking systems, automatic and semi-permanent couplers and external doors, along with heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Engineering will take place at Faiveley’s facilities at Hosur (India), Shanghai (China) and Witten (Germany). Deliveries are scheduled for 2015-17.
The standard-gauge air-conditioned train-sets for Kochi will be 65m long, accommodate 975 passengers, and have a maximum operating speed of 80kph, using a 750V DC third-rail supply. Alstom’s contract includes an option for a further 25 train-sets.
Simon Charlesworth, vice-president at Faiveley Transport, said: “Faiveley’s established manufacturing capabilities in India demonstrate its on-going commitment to meeting its customers’ specific technical requirements and increasing expectations for local production.”
