Rugby-based automation specialist Comau (
www.comau.com) has introduced its SmartDriveComau 800L horizontal machining centre for automotive-industry applications. It can be used as a stand-alone machine or integrated in a flexible production line.
The new machine is equipped with linear motors, which the company says guarantees more-competitive cycle times, thanks to their high speed. According to Comau, linear drives also maintain their accuracy for up to five-times longer than alternative drives based on ballscrews.
The SmartDriveComau 800L offers circular interpolation, as well as a ‘get help’ icon that makes it easier for the operator to interpret and anticipate machine ‘requests’.
It is also available in an MQL (minimum quantity lubrication) version, while the vacuum and air filtration system helps higher levels of internal cleanness to be achieved.
Furthermore, compared with the previous-generation machine, energy savings of around 15% can be expected.
