Hydrogen Hero on track for Modern Railways RVE Industry professionals visiting Modern Railways RVE 2018 will have the opportunity to ride behind the UK’s first hydrogen-powered train.

Designed and built in the UK by the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE), the 10.25in-gauge locomotive Hydrogen Hero will be a leading attraction at the show, which will take place on 4 October at the Derby Velodrome.

Providing alternative power sources for trains is currently a hot topic in the rail industry, with politicians giving enthusiastic support to the potential application of hydrogen power on the UK’s railways.

The development of the demonstration model forms part of research into this area by the University of Birmingham’s BCRRE, which is the largest university-based centre for railway research and education in Europe.

Modern Railways RVE 2018 will feature exhibitors from around the world, showcasing real-time passenger counting, passenger information systems, cab and saloon cooling, traction and passenger information equipment.

Other innovations on show will include LED lighting, entertainment and advertising systems, interior and product design, energy-saving solutions and ‘driver advisory’ equipment.

The event also includes a conference programme and a Meet The Buyer event.

Industry professionals wishing to visit the show can register via the Web site (www.rve-expo.co.uk/visitor-registration).
