Stadler to deliver new trams to Milan

Stadler to deliver new trams to MilanStadler and Azienda Transporti Milanesi SpA (ATM) have signed a framework agreement for the supply of up to 80 TramLink trams to Milan in a deal valued at around 172.6 million euros. The company will initially supply 30 vehicles and it will be the first time Stadler will have delivered trams to Italy.

The 80 bi-directional TramLink trams will be used for both urban and interurban services. They will gradually replace older rolling stock, as well as increase overall capacity.

The TramLink consists of three duplex stainless-steel car bodies, which are highly resistant to corrosion and reduce overall tram weight while maintaining the strength of the structure; and being about 25m long they ‘fit perfectly’ into the road traffic of the Lombardy capital.

In addition, ‘innovative bogies’ improve the smooth running of the trams on the very tight curves typical of Milan, reducing noise significantly for the benefit of passengers and local residents.

CEO of Stadler Valencia ñigo Parra said: “We are very proud that a cosmopolitan city like Milan, strongly committed to green and sustainable mobility, has chosen our innovative tram. The TramLink incorporates Stadler’s long-standing experience in passenger transport vehicles.

“I am convinced that our vehicles will successfully meet the challenges of Milan’s urban transport, including the Winter Olympics in 2026.”
