XYZ extends its presence within Europe

XYZ extends its presence within Europe EMO 2013 provides the ideal opportunity for XYZ Machine Tools Ltd — based in Burlescombe, Devon — to extend its penetration of mainland Europe through its German distributor Arnz Flott GmbH (Hall 16 Stand F16 – www.xyzmachinetools.com). This follows the recent appointment of Andrew Kilshaw as export sales manager; he will adapt the highly successful UK sales strategy based on local showrooms (XYZ currently has six in the UK) to meet European requirements for machine demonstrations and help with customer training and applications engineering.

Machines under power at EMO 2013 will include a ProTurn SLX 425 flat-bed lathe with ProtoTrak CNC; a ProtoTrak SMX 4000 bed mill with the latest Verify and Parasolid software options; a Compact Turn 52 LTY turning centre with driven tools and Y-axis capability; and a five-axis variant of the XYZ 710 vertical machining centre with a high-specification Siemens 840D Sl control. The simplicity of programming the ProtoTrak controls fitted to XYZ’s CNC/manual lathes and milling machines will be a particular feature of the stand with demonstrations provided throughout the exhibition.

The 7.5kW 2,500rev/min ProTurn SLX 425 is a gap-bed lathe with an 80mm spindle bore, a 480mm swing over bed, and either 1,250 or 2,000mm between centres. Meanwhile, the 5.75kW ISO 40-spindle ProtoTrak SMX 4000 bed mill achieves flexibility by offering either a manual quill feed or a programmable head to machine angled holes and surfaces. It has a table area of 1,470 ¥ 356mm and a work envelope of 1,000 x 596 x 540mm.

The latest optional features of the ProtoTrak SMX milling control are the Verify and Parasolid visual representations. Verify supplements tool-path functions, showing where each tool will machine the part (there is the ability to rotate the solid model to confirm areas such as tool depths and to help avoid collision situations). Parasolid allows solid-model data to be directly imported into the control to allow the machinist to work straight from the design and interrogate the model to access key data. Five-axis machining demonstrations will highlight the high precision provided by a Swiss-built Lehmann compact rotary/tilt table unit integrated with the XYZ 710 VMC featuring Siemens 840D Sl control.
